The IT job market remains strong with nearly 1 million open IT positions in the U.S. alone. Plus, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 12% job growth is expected in computer and IT occupations over the next eight years.
But while the IT job market grows, it also evolves. “As tech companies shift into new categories such as cloud, big data, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, they will seek a range of new skills,” said Tim Herbert, senior vice president of research and market intelligence at CompTIA.
At the CompTIA Partner Summit back in July, IT educators exchanged best practices, learned about new tools and resources, and heard from industry thought leaders. A recurring topic during the three-day event was how to help students develop the cutting-edge skills they need to succeed in the current—and future— IT job market.
Developing courses around IT certification objectives is an effective way to make sure students are building the skillsets required for successful careers. CompTIA regularly revises its certifications to incorporate new and updated technologies and techniques. At the Partner Summit, CompTIA introduced its upcoming new certification, Cybersecurity Analyst+, which incorporates behavioral analytics into IT security.
Basic hardware, software, and networking skills are as in demand as ever—yet they’re evolving, too. In 2015, CompTIA released Network+ N10-006. The revised exam includes new security topics, expanded IPv6 coverage, more on troubleshooting, and additional updates.
At the CompTIA Partner Summit, we caught up with Mike Meyers, bestselling author and CompTIA certification training expert, and Walt Jaqua, IT Instructor at South Bend Community School Corporation, to talk about Network+. Mike and Walt discussed a really effective way to help students develop and retain the IT skills they need to succeed. Check it out for yourself:
